Children's Books

Anyone read Sheep in a Jeep? It's great. So many children's books have great rhythm and stories. I miss just great story telling. Anybody know of some adult fiction with a plain ol' great story?

Well, no my book doesn't really fall under that description. However, just finished "The Devil Wears Prada" I was going to put this in a new post but can't quite remember how to do that for some reason?? Anyway, funny book. I hadn't seen the movie. The basic idea is a normal English major grad wants a job at the New Yorker but settles for an assistant to the head cheese at some fashion mag she has never heard of. This women is the "Devil Wearing Prada" and abuses poor Andrea verbally and mentally throughout the whole book until the rather satisfying ending. I was amused by this poor girls non fashion sense surrounded by folks in the latest and most expensive clothing available. Her character was endearing since even with the perks of latest couture in her closet she still didn't really "get it" or care. Be prepared because as you read about poor Andrea putting on the 4-5 in. heels and running out for her bosses latte which must be steaming when she returns your feet will hurt for her.

Maci owns "Sheep in a Jeep"

I think I like it just about as much as she does. Her new favorite is however "The Foot Book"

hmm, I didn't read TDWP, but I saw the movie. I'm not sure I can read it now. Adolfo and I rooted for the devil (aka Meryl Streep) throughout the whole movie. Maybe it's just the movie, but the girl came off as a twit. Meryl, on the other hand, was fantastic!

I haven't read the Sheep in a Jeep, and haven't been around young people enough lately, but I did babysit for a professor's kid last year and she wanted to read 'Skippyjon Jones' six times - are you guys familiar with that one? I also like the Olivia the Pig books; the guy who writes/draws those is a frequent illustrator for The New Yorker. I think I just really like Olivia because the first things she does in the morning are 'move the cat', brush her teeth, and then 'move the cat' again. Cats DO need to be moved.
